Vegan Avena Caliente

This hot oatmeal drink is super comforting, and a great drink to warm up your frozen body on cold winter days.

It’s originally from South America and Carribbean, and this is my vegan version of an old traditional recipe. I hope you like it!

Vegan Avena Caliente

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups non-dairy milk
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  1. Blend water and oats in a blender until the oats are almost “dissolved”. Sieve the mix over a pot  and bring to a boil.
  2. Stir in the remaining ingredients, lower the heat and let simmer for 15 minutes. Serve warm. You can also blend it in a blender once it’s ready for a foamy texture, but make sure to remove the cinnamon sticks first.
