This hot oatmeal drink is super comforting, and a great drink to warm up your frozen body on cold winter days.
It’s originally from South America and Carribbean, and this is my vegan version of an old traditional recipe. I hope you like it!
Vegan Avena Caliente
- 1/2 cup oats
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups non-dairy milk
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- Blend water and oats in a blender until the oats are almost “dissolved”. Sieve the mix over a pot and bring to a boil.
- Stir in the remaining ingredients, lower the heat and let simmer for 15 minutes. Serve warm. You can also blend it in a blender once it’s ready for a foamy texture, but make sure to remove the cinnamon sticks first.
